Mesozoic Era Plants And Animals
During the Mesozoic Era, the main animals were dinosaurs. There were many types of plants. Equisetites were plants that had individual leaves that were jointed or linear, ribbed stems. Equisetites lived in wetland conditions and were usually 20 ft tall. Osmundas had a short stem and were found near water in warm wetland areas and they were usually 6 ½ ft tall. Pachypteris had small fronds with a lobed appearance and grew in salt marshes and were usually 6 ½ ft tall. Williamsonia were small trees that had diamond-patterned bark, palm like leaves, star-shaped flowers and grew in tropical tree-fern forests and were usually 10 ft tall. Pityostrobus looked like pinelike trees. These trees had cones and seeds fell out of the cone when it was fully grown. Pityostrobus were usually 65 ft tall. Sequoias were very large trees that had small, very globular cones that open to let seeds out and they were usually 230 ft tall. Last of all, Araucaria had leaves that were small and toothlike, they had cones were large and very spiny, they grew in subtropical mountain forests and were usually 100 ft tall.
